Presentation
forumdoc.bh.2007 is a cinema and movie festival dedicated to the exhibition and discussion of documentary movies. forumdoc.bh takes place in Belo Horizonte every year, since 1997. The Festival has become a national and international reference for cinema lovers, audiovisual researchers and producers. Due to the quality of its program, the relevance of the debate forums, and the critiques published in the festival’s catalogue, forumdoc.bh integrates the schedule of cinema and video exhibitions in Brazil and is part of Belo Horizonte’s cultural life. forumdoc.bh main goals are: 1) to disseminate high cinematographic quality films and videos, which usually face difficulties for being exhibited in Brazil; 2) to promote reflection and the formation a critical public; 3) to foster research and the qualification of documentary audiovisual production. forumdoc.bh’s program features a varied range of audiovisual productions, including both classic and contemporary films produced in all continents. The festival holds both national and international competitive exhibitions, aiming at mapping, disseminating, and awarding recent documentary productions. forumdoc.bh also promotes debate forums, workshops, and the release of new publications in the field. All exhibitions and other activities are free to the public (no admission fee). An estimated 6,000 people, from diverse social and economic backgrounds, have access to Forum.doc’s events every year. In its 11th edition (from November 23 to December 5, 2007 in Cine Humberto Mauro/Palacio das Artes), forumdoc.bh.2007 will hold two competitive exhibitions (national and international), a full retrospective show of filmmaker Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, a full retrospective show of filmmaker Pedro Costa, and finally a conceptual show linked to Jean-Louis Comolli’s work – the exhibition of the films commented in the book “Ver e Poder”, which will be translated and released with the support from “Filme em Minas” Program, by the State Secretary of Culture. forumdoc.bh.2007 also benefits from the support of Petrobras (Programa Petrobras Cultural) and Cemig (Programa Cemig Cultural). Fundraising for the event was made possible with the approval of the festival’s proposal according to the criteria established by Lei Federal de Incentivo a Cultura (Lei Rouanet).
